The Apgar scoring system, developed by Virginia Apgar, evaluates the newborn’s condition immediately after birth. It is assessed at 1 minute and 5 minutes after delivery. Five parameters are evaluated: heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability, and color, each scored from 0–2, giving a maximum score of 10. Scores 7–10 indicate normal adaptation, while lower scores require resuscitation.
